What’s New: MobileIron Cloud January 2018
Matthew Law | January 29, 2018
We are excited to announce the availability of many new enhancements to MobileIron’s cloud-based enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution. Let me share with you some of the new features we’ve introduced to enable better security and management for your organization’s modern endpoints, including Android, iOS, macOS and Windows 10. I hope you find this to be helpful!
Azure Active Directory (AAD) setup/connect with sync settings
When leveraging cloud services, to say that user synchronization is important, is an understatement. User synchronization is super-critical. And the good news is that MobileIron Cloud now enables you to sync users/groups from your Azure Active Directory (AAD). The following settings are now available: Enable Directory, Enable Auto Invite, Sync Schedule (including one-hour, six-hour, 12-hour and 24-hour options — similar to LDAP) and Sync Now. MobileIron Cloud also ensures the directory is kept up-to-date by utilizing the Microsoft Graph Delta query to keep track of newly created, updated, or removed directory objects in their Azure tenant.
Easy visibility into build and update information for Windows 10 devices
Leveraging MobileIron Bridge, you can now obtain accurate build and update information for the Windows 10 endpoints you secure and manage. For example, you can see OS version, build number, the last Hotfix ID, and the date it was installed. Why is this level of visibility so important? Just consider the malware, vulnerabilities, and ransomware attacks making headlines these days — for example, Spector, Meltdown, NotPetya, and WannaCry. How do you defend against these security threats? Patching is your first and most reliable line of defense. That’s why it’s supercritical that you can easily determine which of your Windows 10 devices have been patched, and when. In addition, you can specify a compliance action when a device hasn’t been updated with the latest security update by deploying a Custom Policy.
Select explicit certificate alias as config for Android enterprise apps
It can be difficult for Android users to identify which certificates are for which service. For this reason, MobileIron Cloud now makes certificate-based authorization more practical for Android enterprise apps. Admins can now designate which certificate will be employed by a service, such as Gmail or Chrome, without having to prompt users to make a selection. So, your users can get onboarded with certificate-based authorization, but without having to make a confusing choice between multiple certificates. This makes for an improved user experience for organizations that leverage Android enterprise apps.
App override URL option
MobileIron Cloud now allows you to make use of an app override URL option for in-house Android, iOS, and macOS apps. This means that admins can designate that an in-house application will be downloaded from a web server hosted by your organization, as opposed to directly downloading the in-house app from MobileIron Cloud’s Content Delivery Network (CDN). The feature can be leveraged in the Apps/+Add/In-House workflow, as well as the Edit In-House App workflow. In addition, this setting can also be designated through our published API (api/vi/app). App override URLs are important if you wish to distribute applications securely without making them available on the MobileIron CDN. The feature may also be useful when you would like to ensure that especially large apps download over Wi-Fi from a local web server.
Support for MobileIron Tunnel on Native Android L+ devices
And finally, I have some great news for users of Android L+ devices. MobileIron Cloud now enables admins to configure MobileIron Tunnel for these devices. This is an excellent option for organizations that are not ready to deploy Android enterprise (formerly Android for Work) or take advantage of MobileIron AppConnect’s app wrapping and containerization capabilities. Now users of Android L+ devices can enjoy secure, instant, per-app VPN access to the business resources required to ensure maximum productivity while on the go.
