Einstein and Siri: A new business relationship that changes everything
As a MobileIron employee, I have to admit that when thinking about the impact iOS 12 would have on our customers, I struggled to come up with anything compelling to say. My response was focused on the important, yet incremental, security and management improvements featured in this release. Cool concepts like ARKit 2 and Siri Shortcuts, while innovative, felt like first or second iterations of ideas that will not drive broader enterprise adoption of iOS in the near future.
This changed the moment I read about the Apple-Salesforce partnership and plans for the Salesforce Mobile App and SDK. There is no doubt that delivering an optimized mobile app using the latest native experiences in iOS, for the world’s #1 CRM platform, will change how work gets done. The announced development of Salesforce’s artificial intelligence solution Einstein, with Apple Siri voice, and use of augmented reality—will bring step-change enhancements to the customer-focused experience envisioned by Tim Cook and Marc Benioff.
Both companies foresee a 360-degree contextual and real-time experience between customers and business. This will require collection of data and intelligent response to these data touchpoints between apps and systems. Businesses that do this well will lead their industries in customer spend and retention and, most importantly, employee satisfaction.The Dreamforce 2018 keynote highlighted several examples of this modern customer experience in play, from Metallica to Unilever.
MobileIron plus iOS: Cross-industry benefits
Since most of MobileIron’s customers use both the iOS and Salesforce platforms, this announcement will have very real ramifications for us as well. Privacy and trust are paramount to customer experience for both Cook and Benioff, as well as for MobileIron. As a pure-play endpoint and cloud app security vendor, it is critical for us to protect customer data created and shared via cloud services using apps on iOS and macOS devices.
As we mentioned in our last earnings call, we’ve seen a wave of customers who have the confidence in the iOS platform and MobileIron’s security and management solutions to expand from simple, mobile email deployments to enabling entire digital workflows on mobile platforms. For example, we helped a leading global strategic consultancy secure access to their cloud services with MobileIron Access. We proved they could realize an extraordinary return on investment by utilizing MobileIron Access for single sign-on to multiple cloud services, which saved each of their employees several minutes each week that were typically taken up by application login flow and password updates. We are proud that we were able to help this company’s clients make lasting improvements to their performance and realize their most business important goals.
We also helped a global manufacturing company control access to its proprietary cloud services by moving its unified endpoint management (UEM) to MobileIron Cloud. We're thrilled to be able to provide our best solutions to this market leader and to enable their team to safely execute modern work.
Starting with Apple’s partnership with IBM in 2014, Tim Cook has been on a mission to change the way people work. Last week’s announcement is one of Apple’s most significant moves in that direction. One day in the not-too-distant future, C-level managers tasked with customer experience and growth, could actually choose Salesforce on iOS as the only business application platform used by a majority of their employees.
