“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”—this opening line from Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities” — could also be an appropriate description of life in IT organizations today. IT leaders have a chance to tap into the incredible innovation spurred by mobile and cloud computing but, in doing so, they have to rethink the fundamentals of their established application, security, and organizational strategies.
This tension is the catalyst for our new “rethink: IT” podcast. The mindset of the podcast is to challenge traditional thinking on information technology and provide practical and provocative perspectives on the future of IT. We’ll explore new concepts but always end with tangible actions that you, as an IT leader, can take today.
We are only halfway through the 20-year journey to modern work. In the past decade, we’ve seen the rise of Android and iOS mobile experiences, as well as a massive acceleration in the number of new application services brought to market. This is due in large part to turbo-charged developers taking advantage of the limitless infrastructure of cloud computing. The past 10 years have also focused on getting next-generation technologies and development tools in place. In the coming decade, we’ll see a greater focus on transformation, when actual workflows and business processes will fundamentally change to create new value propositions and new companies.
I hope the “rethink: IT” podcast will be your companion on this amazing journey. Thanks for letting us come along for the ride!
